Steve Brown

I trained initially in social work over 20 years ago and have post graduate training in family therapy and grief and loss counselling.
For the past 15 years I have been practicing and teaching mindfulness meditation and using mindfulness practices in my work with clients.
I have worked in a diverse range of settings including family therapy and family support, hospice and palliative care and community health.

Currently, as well as working privately as a therapist I also work in a service specialising in panic disorder, anxiety and depression.

My approach is mindfulness-based - I use mindfulness and mindfulness-based CBT in therapy sessions, and teach mindfulness practices to use outside of therapy to assist with difficult emotions and relationships; and my approach is family sensitive - I help explore and work with the effects of current and past family relational patterns.
I also teach TRE - Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises - to groups and individuals. TRE is a body-based, "non-talk" therapy which releases bodily tension, and is helpful in working with stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD.

I aim to work together with clients to explore what it is that is getting in the way of them living a full and meaningful life and to help them experiment with ways to move through those barriers.
I also think it is important to work to establish a foundation for emotional health and resilience by examining lifestyle factors such as diet & nutrition, sleep, exercise, social connection - all of which affect, and are affected by, our stress levels, relationships and emotional lives.
