After travelling widely, raising a family and working in various fields, I commenced a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Criminology(Hons), areas which have always fascinated me. I then furthered my education in psychology by completing a Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling and completed a Master in Counselling at Monash University in 2011. Throughout my studies I trained and continue to volunteer as a Telephone Counsellor at Lifeline. This has given me experience in dealing with complex problems from serious mental health issues, suicidal ideation, self-harm, spousal abuse, anxiety, depression and general life choices. My student placement was spent in a major drug and alcohol service in Melbourne learning about addiction and it's effects not only on the client but also on their families and partners.
In a supportive and caring environment I will help clients to identify key issues, ascertain what they wish to achieve, and support them to work towards their goals. I draw upon the research proven methods of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) whilst also embracing effective techniques such as Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing when required. This creates a wholistic approach and provides clients with skills they can adopt outside the counselling session for self-empowerment and long-lasting benefits.
